What happens when an educator dares to reimagine Christian education for a digital world—and fully entrusts the outcome to God?
Around 2005, a group of Christian leaders and educators gathered to dream about an ideal online Christian school. Though their promising plans never fully materialized in that setting, the vision planted a seed. In 2006, God brought the right people together—including Dr. Mark Beadle and a Christian businessman passionate about faith-driven education. From that divine appointment, the dream of Sevenstar began to take shape.
Reflecting on those early days, Dr. Beadle shared, “[God] was organized this way ahead of it becoming a thought in my mind. We often said when asked about how it started or who owned it that God started it, or that this was His school.” This deep conviction of God’s hand on the work would guide every step forward.
Seeing the Gaps and the Opportunity
With nearly two decades of experience as principal at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy and as an online instructor for Indiana Wesleyan University, Dr. Beadle had seen firsthand the growing challenges Christian schools faced, especially those with small enrollments and limited resources. Schools struggled to offer advanced courses, meet staffing needs, and maintain academic excellence while staying rooted in biblical truth.
Families also faced challenges in finding educational options that fit their unique circumstances. After traveling to more than 45 countries and living in both Saudi Arabia and Taiwan, Dr. Beadle heard firsthand from missionary families struggling to secure quality schooling. He witnessed mothers overwhelmed by homeschooling without adequate tools or training. For many, limited local options meant boarding school or relocation were the only choices. In some cases, parents were even forced to leave the mission field because they couldn’t find suitable education for their children.
“We didn’t want the work of the gospel to suffer,” Dr. Beadle shared. “We wanted Christian missionary work to continue and expand. If we could play a small part in that, praise the Lord.”
The Launch of Sevenstar
As the need for flexible, Christ-centered education became increasingly clear, Dr. Beadle began searching for practical solutions. In 2005, he joined a group of Christian school leaders and representatives from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) to explore what an ideal online Christian school might look like. While that early collaboration didn’t progress, the conviction remained.
Then, in June 2006, a providential meeting with a like-minded Christian businessman in Cincinnati brought the vision to life. United by their passion for biblically grounded education, they began building what would soon become Sevenstar—an online school committed to academic rigor and gospel truth, made accessible to students around the world.
The name “Sevenstar” was chosen for its rich biblical meaning. In Scripture, the number seven symbolizes divine completeness and perfection, while stars represent light, guidance, and the presence of God. Jesus is called the Bright Morning Star, bringing hope to the world. Together, the name points both to God’s greatness and His care for every student entrusted to this ministry.
With the name in place, the next priority was curriculum. The team carefully selected academically rigorous courses and then reimagined them through a biblical lens. A team of Christian educators embedded Scripture, spiritual themes, and worldview integration into each lesson through a thoughtful, multi-step process. The result was a catalog of 60 biblically integrated courses designed to prepare students for both academic and spiritual growth.
God-Given Growth, Global Impact
The first students began their classes in September 2006 through a partnership with a Christian school. By year’s end, 129 students from more than 10 U.S. states and eight countries had enrolled along with twenty-one schools had chosen to partner with Sevenstar. In 2007, Sevenstar added over 20 dual credit courses in partnership with two Christian colleges, along with 10 new Bible courses. That same summer, interest from homeschool families surged, and Sevenstar became an ACSI Administrator Board Partner, opening even more doors to serve schools and educators nationwide.
What started as a high school solution for a handful of partner schools rapidly evolved into a dynamic platform serving a diverse student body: missionaries, homeschoolers, international learners, co-ops, and Christian schools of all sizes.
God was making a way for students around the world to access rigorous academics rooted in biblical truth. But it wasn’t just the numbers that confirmed the calling—it was the stories.
One student lived on a small island off the coast of Haiti, where her missionary parents needed an option that wouldn’t require her to attend boarding school or leave the field. She became one of Sevenstar’s first graduates and went on to earn her degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Another student, living in Nairobi, Kenya, completed his coursework from a local coffee shop and later attended college in Canada. A young man whose father served as a Christian school board president used Sevenstar to recover credits and graduate from one of the top Christian schools in the U.S. In Hong Kong, a Muslim student referred by a missionary took a Bible course and encountered Scripture for the first time—an experience that changed her life. Each story affirmed a simple truth: this work was not just educational—it was ministry.
Following God’s Lead
As Sevenstar expanded, the team remained grounded in its original purpose. Every meeting began with prayer, hiring decisions centered on mission alignment, and each choice was made with the desire to honor Christ and serve others faithfully.
Dr. Beadle reflects that their initial vision was often far more limited than what God had planned. Rather than a sudden shift, growth happened step by step, responding to where the fruit was evident. They experimented with new ideas—like launching an elementary pilot program after much prayer and deliberation and a three-year pilot confirmed it was the right direction. Some initiatives were tried and later discontinued, while others, particularly high school courses such as 9th grade English and Spanish, consistently showed strong enrollment and impact.
A key part of this journey was the growing partnership with the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). As shared values and a common mission brought the two organizations closer, this relationship helped open new doors to serve more schools and educators with excellence. Another pivotal moment came in hiring Brett Henry, who would become the current CEO and Head of School, strengthening leadership to steward this expanding vision.
Planting Seeds Today for Tomorrow’s Disciples
Though Dr. Beadle has stepped away from day-to-day leadership, his prayers and vision continue to echo through the ministry he helped start. “My prayer for the students is that they will develop into servants of the King,” he shared. His legacy is not one of personal achievement but of obedience—and God’s undeniable faithfulness.
“Anything good that happened was a result of God,” he reflected. “Looking back, I’m amazed how He used an ordinary (at best) person.”
As Scripture reminds us, “So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth” (1 Corinthians 3:7, ESV). That truth remains at the heart of Sevenstar’s identity: faithful planting, intentional watering, and full trust that the harvest belongs to God. Today, new courses, programs, and services are being introduced, not to chase trends, but to open more doors for discipleship, academic excellence, and access to Christ-centered education.
